Every day in America, thousands of kids miss school because they lack one simple thing: clean clothes.

To determine how having access to clean clothes can impact a student’s life, we created Care Counts – a program that provides Whirlpool washers and dryers to schools in need.

We partnered with schools in several districts across the country and installed laundry pairs equipped with data collection devices. Over the course of year, we tracked the amount of laundry cleaned at each school and the overall classroom performance of the students.

The results were incredible.

93% of participating students had an increase in attendance

95% of students were more motivated in class

89% of students improved their classroom participation

95% of students participated more in extracurricular activities

Case Study

Since 2015, Whirlpool has installed washers and dryers in 82 schools (and counting) helping over 38,000 students across 18 cities. The program’s success has brought hope and opportunity to struggling communities and given students an increase in confidence that will impact the rest of their lives.

Care Counts has generated lots of press and positive sentiment, celebrated as a bold, simple idea that embodies Whirlpool’s beliefs and proves the power of care.
